NVIDIA Prepping Quad-Core Chip Gaming Demo for Computex
Later this week at Computex, NVIDIA will be demonstrating their new Kal-El platform, and showcasing some of the unique features of this new Quad-core chip.
Earlier this year, NVIDIA unveiled the world’s first quad core processor for mobile devices. Dubbed “Project Kal-El”, this chip contained a 12 core NVIDIA GPU that supported 3D stereo all while being battery friendly.
Dual-core mobile processors are not inherently new, as there are many devices already on the market that are powered by these chips. However, NVIDIA promises that their quad-core technology will substantially improve, if not revolutionize, the mobile experience.
Before Computex began, NVIDIA uploaded a tech demo onto YouTube which showed the potential of the Project Kal-El. In the demo, entitled Glowball, a ball of light is the primary light source. As the ball rolls it casts its lighting effect onto different objects. If the user tilts the device, the ball and drapes will roll accordingly, the physics being calculated in real time over Kal-El’s four CPUs.
This tech demo shows the prowess of Kal-El, specifically its ability to render true dynamic lighting and physics in real time. With support for 3D stereo this technology is sure to revolutionize the mobile gaming platform.
We’ll have more details of this quad-core platform as they emerge.
Could this be what is required to usurp the iPad as the dominant mobile gaming device?
