Nokia still struggling: drop to 15% marketshare

Nokia have been restructuring as they try to bounce back from one of their toughest years on record. Latest reports however show that they have slipped to third place in the global market, dropping to 15 percent share.

Nokia drop behind Apple and Samsung with 19 percent and 18 percent of the market respectively. Strategy Analytics filed the report this week, and the findings are very similar to others from IDC and ABI Research.

Strategy Analytics do add that Samsung are gaining more momentum in the market, when compared against Apple.

Tom Kang of Stategy Analytics said “Having become the first ever vendor to ship 100 million smartphones in a single year during 2010, long-time leader Nokia has slipped two places in our rankings in Q2 2011. The vendor’s 15 per cent global market share is less than half of what it was just one year earlier, as the industry awaits Nokia’s pending transition to Windows Phone 7.”

Nokia are still the number one mobile phone manufacturer in the world, having shipped 24.2 percent of all phones in Q2 this year.
